Typically we assemble hundreds of volunteers at over 25 sites to pick up tons of trash, plant flowers and trees, spread mulch, paint, and more on just one Saturday morning in April. Unfortunately this year due to the COVID19 pandemic we had to cancel our regular event, but we are excited to be bringing back the 2020 Great American Cleanup in a different format!
Instead of having every site work on the same day, we are allowing site leaders to register their site for any Saturday morning from July 25 to September 26. We will provide most of the same supplies as our usual event: trash bags, gloves, grabbers, trash bag removal, hand sanitizer and disinfectants, snacks, a giveaway for every volunteer, and guidance on best practices for maintaining small groups, social distancing, and keeping everyone safe and healthy at each site. Sites can also apply for up to $250 towards their beautification project.
We're also adding a new incentive for 2020. Whichever neighborhood picks up the most trash will be the recipient of our first annual Perk Up the Neighborhood event! We're committing at least $4000, plus time, tools, and volunteers towards beautifying one neighborhood this year. We'll work with the winning neighborhood on how to use the investment, but the project might include tree plantings, neighborhood flower pots, public art, banners, or something else entirely. So register your GAC event and get your friends, family, and neighbors out to get that litter!
