E-Waste Drive

The Keep Covington Beautiful E-Waste Drive is an annual event held on the third Saturday of June that provides Covington residents, businesses, schools, and churches with a free and eco-friendly way to dispose of unwanted electronics and other hard-to-recycle items, like foam, batteries, and lightbulbs.

The next E-Waste Drive is Saturday, June 20, 2026.

Thank you to everyone who supported our 2025 E-Waste Drive! 238 cars participated, recycling 8,430 pounds of e-waste, 262 pounds of batteries, 468 pounds of lightbulbs, and 13,000 pounds of paper!

Why it matters

Electronic waste, or e-waste, is the fastest growing waste stream in the world. In the United States alone, over 3.4 million tons of electronics are disposed of each year. When improperly disposed of in landfills, electronics can leak toxic chemicals like lead, cadmium, and mercury into the soil and water, posing a serious threat to the environment and public health.

By participating in the E-Waste drive, you help ensure these items are responsibly recycled, which also allows for the recovery of valuable materials like copper and aluminum, reducing the need for new raw materials and supporting a more sustainable economy.

The event accepts a wide variety of items. Cohen, a certified electronics recycling company, handles the e-waste, ensuring any data is securely wiped or destroyed.

Accepted Items

  • Electronics: All computers (towers, laptops, monitors), keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, TVS (including CRTS), VCRs, DVRs, stereo equipment, video game systems, cell phones, microwaves, and all cables and cords.

  • Paper: Confidential documents for secure shredding. Paper must be loose and dry; staples and paper clips do not need to be removed.

  • Foam: clean, white expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam, like that used in coolers and packaging sheets. It must be free on tape, stickers, or food residue.

  • Miscellaneous: Batteries (alkaline, lithium-ion, rechargeable, and button cell) and light bulbs (incandescent, LED, and fluorescent)
